Believing Impossible Things

“Alice laughed: “There’s no use trying,” she said; “one can’t believe impossible things.”

“I daresay you haven’t had much practice,” said the Queen. “When I was younger, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”

– Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

When we first entertain a new more supportive belief it often seems impossible and ludicrous. Our subconscious mind has, after all, been running on the exact opposite program for years.

“I have a strong immune system and stay healthy all year long.” How unbelievable is that if I have been expecting to get at least one cold every winter?

“I easily and effortlessly attract money doing what I love”. How ludicrous does that seem if the previous belief program is “It is hard for me to make and keep money”?

“I have all it takes to draw my perfect partner into my life.” How hard to grasp if old programs of unworthiness have been running the show!

“I deserve to relax and take time for myself.” How challenging is this when I have learned that I always have to achieve and produce and that resting means I am lazy?

“It is impossible for a human being to run a mile under four minutes.” So many believed that in the 1940ties until Roger Banister broke the world record and ran the mile in 3 minutes, 59 seconds. Shortly afterwards several other people broke that barrier of 4 minutes as it was now believable. Today the world record lies at 3 minutes 43 seconds.

Have you ever tried to change your beliefs through affirmations alone? How long did that take and how effective was that? We usually need many repetitions to create lasting changes on a conscious level.

Our subconscious is like a sumo wrestler in a wrestling match with our conscious mind, which perhaps has the strength of a five year old child. Unless we get the sumo wrestler on our side, the match is pretty much lost.

Our conscious mind can process and manage an average of 40 nerve pulse per second, our subconscious mind manages approximately 40 million nerve pulses per second. In other words, while the conscious mind can process 40 bits of information, the subconscious can process 40 million bits. Our conscious mind only controls 5% of all our actions. 95% of our actions are due to our subconscious programs, our beliefs based on our past experiences, traumas, ideas and values.

Bruce Lipton quote A

Bruce Lipton summarizes the four ways of rewriting subconscious programming:

  1. Shock

For example, a belief like “Life is safe for me” can suddenly change to the opposite when we experience a traumatic event like an accident or loss.

  1. Repetition

Affirmations are a way of repeating a new belief over and over again until the subconscious agrees.

  1. Hypnosis

In a normal waking state of consciousness, our brain wave activity is in the beta range. Through hypnosis, we can access alpha and theta brain waves and access the subconscious mind with beneficial suggestions.

  1. Energy Psychology / Belief Change Modalities

Belief Change modalities, like PSYCH-K® or the Shadow Energetics® Belief Change Process, are equivalent to super-learning and are undoubtedly the fastest way of changing a belief. You can rewrite a belief program in 5-10 minutes.

The Magic Potion to Create Harmonious and Loving Relationships

Are you struggling with your relationship with a particular family member, perhaps with a parent, sibling or child?

Is your marriage or partnership not harmonious or truly loving?

Are you single and do you want to attract a romantic relationship into your life?

Are you getting separated or divorced, and do you want the transition to be as positive as possible?

If I had a magic potion and could give you the relationships you want, what would that look like?

Guess what! YOU have that magic potion yourself. You can create relationships that unfold with ease, joy, and grace. Your relationships can be filled with love, harmony, peace, happiness, and acceptance. Even your relationship with an ex-partner can be cooperative and friendly.

All you have to do is mix your magic potion in the right way; the basic ingredients are working on your own beliefs, thoughts and feelings, and embodying loving kindness, forgiveness and acceptance.

We can never change another person but we can change ourselves. As you change your perception of the relationship you have to another person—as you shift how you feel about him/her and what he/she did—your entire experience changes.

The people we love are usually the best mirrors for us. They bring to our awareness issues we need to work on within ourselves. We can then shift out of judgment and into acceptance. As we confront and befriend the shadows they are showing us in our own being, we no longer get triggered by those loved ones.

Behind every experience there are beliefs and expectations.

If I judge a family member or partner, the relationship will lack mutual acceptance, appreciation and love. The change begins with me changing my judgments and feelings.

If I believe that I am not lucky with romantic relationships, “not being lucky” will be exactly the experience I have. The change starts with moving into a new expectation.

If I view my ex-partner as an enemy, the relationship will be one of disharmony. Change can happen when I am willing to let go of the past  and expect the best now and in the future.

De-cluttering Our Home and Our Mind

With the New Year, the urge to “sweep out old energy” and to make room for the new came in strongly. I usually get a desire to de-clutter at the end of each year but this time around the de-cluttering took on a scope like never before.

We sold the old sofa, bought a new sofa, gave away other furniture, rearranged several rooms, gave away boxes and boxes of books (we are all avid readers) and we were also finally all ready to part with old toys.

De-cluttering brought up a lot of emotions. When we let go of the old and move into a new phase, we leave our comfort zone. Giving away many of my daughters’ toys brought up happy childhood memories for all of us, and the realization that there is no stopping the growing-up process.

For my older daughter, who is done with school soon, it was emotional to give away old books, as it reminded her of the countless hours of reading together, and of feeling loved, safe and taken care of. Life had a predictable structure back then, while now her future is wide open.

For my younger daughter, the tears welled up when she was sorting through her stuffed animal collection and giving away half of them. “After all,” she said, “all stuffed animals need someone to love them.”

And I, myself, had to fight the urge to keep everything “for my grandchildren.” I had to remind myself that before I have grandchildren, many other adventures and projects await me. That energy needs space and room to manifest in my house and in my mind.

There was a lot of dust in the air when we moved things around. However, my dust allergy only kicked in as I was going through old books, especially those that I had used to teach and home-school my older daughter during another time of transition and great change in our lives. I found that interesting, considering that allergies are an over-response of our immune system to something quite harmless which it perceives as a danger. My body was clearly communicating a fear to me, while another part of me felt ready to overcome that fear of what only appears to be dangerous.

For all of us, the resistance to let go wasn’t about the things themselves; it was about the feelings that they bring up in us. It was about moving forward, letting go of what is familiar and therefore feels safe. Unless we let go and fully live in the present with courage, we cannot create anything new. This requires moving out of our comfort zone and allowing ourselves to feel that the future is bright and exciting.

De-cluttering your house therefore goes hand in hand with de-cluttering your mind. In fact, they both feed off each other. Beliefs and thoughts which we must allow to grow when de-cluttering our environment and our minds are:

– Change is safe and exciting.

– I thrive on change.

– I welcome change and growth.

– I joyfully release the past and expect the best now and in the future.

– I embrace new energy and new opportunities.

– I make room for the new.

– I stop waiting for __________ and create the life I want NOW!

– I attract wonderful new experiences, people and things into my life.

The house now feels airier and lighter. There is an atmosphere of bubbly excitement. It filled us with expectancy and anticipation for fabulous and wonderful new things to come in 2014.

An Opportunity to be Someone Different

Each Halloween is an opportunity to express our fantasies and to play like children—even for just one night. We light up the darkness with pumpkins—some of them masterfully carved. We can step out of who we are and try on “another skin,” show up completely differently. Allow our playful side, our ugly shadow, or our creative talents to come out. Halloween is about the freedom to be who we want to be—if just for one night.

Why do we not make it a habit to ask ourselves each day,

“Who am I truly? How do I want to show up today?”

Instead we wear our same old masks each day without realizing that we have the freedom every day to be who and what we want to be.

Who are you underneath that mask?

Would you like to take the mask off and show up more authentically?

You can be the best version of yourself in every given moment of every day. Make the choice to live from the heart. Clear out all limiting stories and beliefs we hang on to out of fear.

Hypnosis and Psych-K® are techniques that help us shift our beliefs at a subconscious level. Shadow work assists us in becoming more whole, in loving and embracing ourselves.

Let’s discover what it takes to live more authentically, to be a happy healthy you!

Our Words Are Powerful Beyond Belief

Mind your thoughts

because they become your words

Mind your words

because they become your actions

Mind your actions

because they become your habits

Mind your habits

because they become your destiny.

This was one of my favourite poems 8 years ago when I first studied Hypnosis. Today, I was reminded of this poem when working with a client.

Our beliefs, thoughts and words are the key to how we create and experience our reality. In fact, after all these years of coaching clients, I feel stronger than ever that words carry a powerful vibration of manifestation.

Within the first five minutes of her session, the client said eight times (I kept a tally on my notepad) “I am so tired.” Then the real belief underneath slipped out when she said, “I deserve to be tired.”

What was she doing by constantly mentioning her tiredness and exhaustion? She was making it worse, of course. And we have all done that. We have been sick, or in pain, or tired, or feeling strong emotions and we have enhanced that state by not just affirming it to ourselves but by sharing the feeling with everybody else around us.

Why was she doing that? Surely nobody wants to feel tired? She was doing this because she felt she did not deserve to rest and enjoy her life. She wasn’t even sure if she deserved to feel tired. If she could at least convince herself that she deserved to feel that way, she might be able to sneak some relaxation in through the back door. Meanwhile, her guilt about feeling exhausted and wanting to relax prevented her from doing exactly that. She could not give herself permission to sit down and do nothing.

On her free day, she felt compelled to work around the house or fill her day with unpleasant appointments: things that she convinced herself she had to get done. As we worked through this, she realized she deserved better than to feel tired. She deserves to recharge, reenergize and let go. We did some belief change work for her to shift to always enjoying her free time.

I love to see the glow in someone’s eyes when they deeply make a shift to living in line with what their soul needs. She realized she wanted to be fully present to her life and to enjoy every moment. Being present, allowing your soul to just be—to just marvel at how wonderful life is—heals and is healthy for the body, the mind and the spirit.

How Your Beliefs Sabotage Your Weight Loss

Do you find that you start on a new diet or exercise regime and then give up half way through?  Have you repeatedly sabotaged your efforts to be slim, trim and healthy?

Science has shown that 85% of the choices we make and the actions we take are made by our subconscious mind. The subconscious mind operates on the premise to protect us, based on beliefs that we have often learned at a very young age.

If your subconscious believes that it is hard and unpleasant to lose weight, that you can’t lose weight, that change is scary or that somehow it is safer for you to remain overweight, then that is what will be true for you. Until these old beliefs are changed at a subconscious level, they can continue to sabotage your weight loss and exercise goals.

I invite you to take a look at what you were feeling and thinking just before you sabotaged your last diet or stopped exercising.

Also ask yourself honestly:

What does the weight allow me to do?

What could be a negative consequence of losing weight?

What does the weight prevent me from doing?

You might be surprised that your answers are along the lines of

“I don’t have to move forward with my life.”

“My sister / friend / mother etc. accepts and likes me this way.”

“I don’t have to be intimate.”

Don’t judge yourself and dismiss the idea if something comes up that seems “silly.” Go with your first insight or feeling; you will be on the right track to discover how your subconscious is trying to protect you.

Some examples of limiting beliefs could be:

– “I have always been overweight.” or “It runs in my family to be overweight.”

– “Wanting to be slim and fit means I am immoral / superficial etc.”

– “People close to me will be jealous and not like me anymore when I am skinny.”

– “I don’t deserve to take care of myself.”

Uncovering these limiting beliefs, understanding them and clearing them out with techniques like Hypnosis and/or Psych-K® makes a huge difference in being able to attain your goals for a healthy happy life and maintaining your ideal weight.

What is the Nocebo Effect?

Most of us have heard of the placebo effect, but do you know what the nocebo effect is?

The power of the placebo effect has been repeatedly proven. Bruce Lipton, for example, sites in his book “Biology of Belief” a “New England Journal of Medicine” study from 2002 on surgery for osteoarthritis of the knee.

The patients were divided into three groups. One group received real knee surgery, one group received no surgery and the placebo group received “fake” surgery. These patients in the last group believed they had been operated on.

The fascinating outcome is that the placebo group improved just as much as the group that received real surgery.

The nocebo effect is the exact opposite of the placebo effect. The nocebo effect occurs when the mind is engaged in negative beliefs and self-suggestions than damage the health of the person.

Bruce Lipton mentions the example of a patient who was falsely diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus, which in 1974 was considered 100% fatal. The patient died believing he was terminally ill.

Both the placebo and the nocebo effects show that the power of our mind is our real healing power. That is were Rob Williams technique PSYCH-K® comes in.
