Sexual Moksha – How We Block Our Energy Flow

(Special Thanks to Life Transformation Coach Michelle Burns for compiling some of the material referenced in this blog.)

We block our energy physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally. Foods that are high in chemicals and refined sugars, medications, lack of sleep and movement all physically block the natural healthy energy flow. Our suppressed emotions are still held in the body and cause further blocks. Believing in the illusion of separation from spirit, over-identifying with our minds, keeping busy instead of allowing ourselves time for connecting to our own wisdom and intuition, all create a spiritual block. Our mental conditioning around our sexuality is due to religious, cultural and family influences. In our patriarchal and church-dominant history, sexuality and pleasure were branded as bad. It allowed the church to control people and disempowered the Divine Feminine, most obvious in the witch burnings during the 15th to 18th centuries

Our cultural brainwashing is very prevalent in the media, which connects sexuality with violence, domination and impurity. Sexuality is portrayed mostly on a low consciousness level in scenes of abuse, or as something dirty, bad and hidden. This perpetuates a cycle of shame, guilt and fear. Big pharmaceutical companies have an invested interest in this situation remaining this way. Viagra alone is a billion dollar industry. Empowering people to clear out their fears and emotional baggage means a financial loss for pharmaceutical companies who are at present selling medications to fix the superficial problems instead of clearing out the root cause for them.

Within our families, the limiting sexual beliefs are handed down to the next generation. Some examples are the topic of masturbation, which is still a taboo in many families, or the reluctance of many parents to explain sexual facts to their children age-appropriately but early on. The fear of having honest talks with our children and adequately teaching them that we are all sexual beings leads to them having secret sexual lives coloured by guilt and shame, hiding abuse experiences or drifting into teenage pregnancies and unnecessary abortion which usually have long-lasting psychological effects. Sexual shame and negative beliefs in regards to our body and our sexuality create a lot of emotional pain for all of us.

Hawkins Map-of-consciousness

David Hawkin’s , M.D., Ph.D. has calibrated different experience levels and connected emotions on a scale from 1 to 1000. Each emotion represents a different frequency that is measurable. Shame and guilt are the lowest vibration on the Hawkins’ scale of Consciousness. As the illustration shows, guilt (“I have done something wrong”) vibrates at 30, shame (“I am a bad person”) at 20 on this scale. 200 is the tipping point where we move into empowerment and health. No disease can exist above the frequency of 200. Our personal frequency also greatly affects the collective frequency of the planet and brings humanity as a whole into higher consciousness levels.

In order to manifest for us what we truly desire our visions have to match up with the frequency of love (500) and joy (540). Slower and heavier emotions cause visions to manifest slowly. If we stay emotionally in higher frequencies, visions manifest fast. The path to that level of love and joy is not by getting rid of the lower vibrational emotions or getting stuck in them but by experiencing them and getting them in flow. The key is not to make anything wrong, bad or a problem. Whatever comes up just is. When we are able to be present with our heavier emotions and see the beauty in them, we can shift out of suffering into a healthy flow of emotions and energy. Our emotions are our friends. We can allow the emotions to inform us of our unmet needs. The way shame and guilt lose their power over us is by looking them straight in their face, acknowledging them and clearing them out with somebody you trust in individual sessions or in a safe workshop space.

Sexual Moksha – Sexuality Beyond Our Limiting Beliefs

Here is a brand new workshop, created by my friend Darryl Gurney. He calls his workshop “Sexual Moksha. Liberating Your Sensuous Soul for Pleasure, Magic and Creativity.”

“Moksha” is a Sanskrit word and means “Liberation” or “Emancipation”. Why would we want to liberate ourselves from our sexual conditioning, you might wonder? Is it really that important? What do I gain from working on that area of my life?

Our sexual energy has an impact on our overall health and happiness. This energy is located in our second chakra and is also our creative energy, our innovative impulse and life force energy which allows us to be connected to our spirituality.

One in three women and one in six men have been sexually abused at one point. These experiences affect us consciously and subconsciously for the rest of our lives. Abused children usually make these incidents mean something about themselves; they often experience guilt or shame and learn beliefs about themselves which prevent joyful and fulfilled relationships. Every one of us, whether we had abuse experiences or not, has been affected in some way by the sexual shame present in our culture. Sexual shame, dysfunction and guilt block our life force energy, stifle our creative energy, our passion, and our joy. Beliefs about being a bad person (shame), about having done something wrong (guilt) or not deserving the best that love and life have to offer are the root for co-creating a reality of limited health and happiness.

Our sexual energy has an impact on our overall health. Sexual energy is energy in motion which keeps our body vibrant, young and healthy. Leonard Laskow. MD, a former gynaecologist, has done extensive research on sexual diseases and has found a strong correlation between our sexual-emotional issues and physical issues. Herpes, for example, on the emotional-mental side can be connected to difficulty trusting others, struggling to forgive ourselves and others and challenges around self-love and loving others. As his patients healed their emotional issues, the physical symptoms dissipated. Impotence, to just mention one more of many examples, has been connected to a fear of loss and confusion in relationships, performance stress or sexual shame.

When we liberate buried emotions and release limiting beliefs, our life force energy can flow again. Our sexual energy can connect us to the Divine, and allows us to experience unity and bliss with a partner. Our sexual energy is also a potent force for manifestation. When we place our intention to create and manifest something at the tip of an orgasm, the energy goes out into the field with great power. If you want to read more about how we block our true potential please continue reading part two of this blog, called “Sexual Moksha – How We Block Our Energy Flow”.

“I will not find you wrong”

At the end of the four day Shadow Energetics workshop, we all hold hands in the closing circle and share with a few words how we feel; gratitude, joy, peace, sadness for the weekend being over, and most of all unconditional love and acceptance are being expressed. The most magical moment for me always unfolds when we are playing the beautiful song “I Will Take Care of You” by Amy Sky: I can literally see into every person’s soul.

All the masks that we wear on a daily basis have come off after being together for four days. Everybody feels safe enough to let the other participants see their vulnerable, authentic self. Some people are really touched by the song. Some even cry, as I did when I first heard the lyrics and allowed its message to land inside my heart.

I will take care of you

The song tells the story of a baby being born and the mother taking care of her. It talks about the girl growing up to be a bride and her wedding vows being “I will take care of you”. It continues with the mother dying and the daughter taking care of her, and ends with another baby girl being born into this endless cycle of love and care. It expresses the longing we have in our closest relationships to feel safe, protected and taken care of. It is a song about our own inner child, that part inside us that needs nothing more but to feel safe and looked after.

As I look around the circle, there is no doubt in anybody’s face that we are one big family, in which you know with absolute certainty that you are accepted the way you are. The workshop reminded us of what we all know deep down to be true: We are one.

Incredibly blessed, deeply honoured and very much aware of the responsibility I hold as I am carrying forward the teachings of my friend and mentor, Darryl Gurney, I am once again reflecting on what it takes to get to this moment at the end of every single workshop. Teaching the Shadow Energetics Work is way beyond teaching techniques and even beyond providing the opportunity to all participants to make their own shifts and changes and do their own healing. The key to teaching this particular workshop lies in providing the experience of being unconditionally loved and accepted, truly feeling that we are enough exactly the way we are.

Darryl has many times shared what was the most intimate moment in his life, when he understood what allows people to heal. He was in a session with his Body Talk Teacher. Lying face up on the massage table something came up that made him feel defensive. His Body Talk Teacher gently put his hand on Darryl’s higher heart chakra, looked deeply into his eyes, and simply said “I will not find you wrong”.

I will not find you wrong img2

The experience of not being found wrong is deeply life changing. The courage of being able to be open and vulnerable is initiated and encouraged by the instructor, yet carried by every single participant. In all my years of taking different training and workshops, I have never come across a second person who so masterfully creates a safe space in which everybody is heard, seen and held. That Darryl has been able to do this over and over again is the result of many years of doing his own work, clearing out his own shadows and triggers and being conscious enough to know that the work never ends.

During the last workshop, a participant expressed surprise that Darryl himself muscle tested out a shadow and took part in a process I facilitated. She asked, “After all those years and all the work you have done, you still find shadows to integrate?” His response was an emphatic, “Yes, of course.”

He walks his talk. Darryl’s daily practice is to wake up in the morning and to work on his dream messages. Dreams show us what is going on in our subconscious mind and which beliefs we might want to change. In our family, we work on and with each other to clear out fears, limiting beliefs, emotions and integrate our shadows. Sometimes we say, “There is no time right now” and things are postponed and occasionally forgotten.

Doing your own work is about making choices and setting priorities. Often we wait until something is wrong, we are in pain, in a conflict or a relationship is endangered. What if we all healed our issues now, instead of waiting until we are seriously ill, or the other person we have a broken relationship with has died?

Having been entrusted with the Shadow Energetics workshops for the GTA, I have an extra incentive to continue my work on becoming clearer as a person, stronger as a teacher and more unconditionally loving in every way.

Please watch out for the Shadow Energetics Workshop Schedule for Early Spring 2015.

How do I interpret my dreams?

Dreams are one way of our subconscious mind to communicate with us. They are full of symbols. The art is to listen, to understand and to find out what needs to be done to address the messages a dream gives us. How do I open the door to my dreams?

Dreams_Door

If you currently have trouble remembering your dreams, set a clear intention that you want to receive messages in the dream state. Keep paper to write or a recorder next to your bed. That way you can jot down or record your dream while you are still half asleep and in the alpha brain wave state. Once we get up and move our bigger muscles, we go into beta brain wave activity and it is much harder to remember a dream. If you still find it challenging to recall your dreams you might need to do a belief balance like “I clearly remember my dreams” or “It is safe for me to remember my dreams”, using PSYCH-K® or another modality.

If you are working with another person’s dream, honour and respect their confidentiality and vulnerability. Refrain from offering your own interpretations. Only the dreamer themselves can for sure say what a certain person, animal or object represents to them and what their dream means to them. If they are at a loss to understand their dream you can offer a respectful comment like “If it were my dream, I would wonder if…”

You can access dream dictionaries to get an idea of the symbolic meaning of dream images. However, ultimately all that matters is what something means to the individual dreamer. For example, according to Freud’s classic dream interpretation theory, a snake showing up in a dream represents a phallic symbol that could relate to how you experience male energy or your own sexuality. However, a snake might represent many other things to an individual. How does the snake act? Is the snake viewed as dangerous or beautiful? A snake can appear in your dreams as an animal spirit guide or animal totem, bringing guidance about life direction and healing opportunities. A snake sheds its old skin and renews. It might symbolize the end of something and the beginning of something new. What type of snake shows up in your dream can change the meaning. Is the dreamer themselves “acting like a snake” or is there somebody in their life who has snake-like energy? What part in the dreamer does the snake possibly stand for?

Some dreams are prophetic, most are symbolic and contain hidden messages for us. Whether you are analyzing your own dream or helping somebody else understand theirs here is a method which we use in Shadow Energetics to map out your dreams and to access the messages:

Write down the dream. Draw a box around the setting, circle the people and animals, underline each major object, draw a wavy line under each feeling and underline with an arrow the major actions. Now you can begin to muscle test or use your pendulum to figure out what part of your dream requires your attention. Is it the people, the animals, the objects, the settings, the feelings or actions?

Dream Example

Once you have keyed in on the major aspects ask how you feel about them, the people, animals, objects, actions and when did you last have a feeling from a dream in real life? To understand what a person or animal represents describe what they are like. Do they remind you of any part of yourself? When we dream of a young child, that child might represent our own inner child inside. If the child in your dream is lost and you are looking for her or him, this could reflect your own relationship with yourself. Have you lost the connection to your own vulnerability or playfulness? Do you need to pay attention to what your inner child needs or wants?

There are many more questions you can ask. Muscle testing can help you to efficiently narrow down what the message is and what you are supposed to do in regards to the message. You might need to change some beliefs and/or some concrete action steps might be required. If you are not accustomed to using muscle testing or a pendulum, you can bring a dream message into a meditation with you and ask what you need to know about this dream.

A related podcast which might interest you is

Do you truly love, honour and respect yourself?

When I work with clients, as well as in my own work, the inner child comes up a lot. Being in touch with our inner child is a key piece in learning to truly love ourselves, to be comfortable with our feelings and lovingly taking care of our needs. A caring relationship with our inner child is necessary to be vulnerable, to trust others and to have truly intimate relationships.

Inner Child 3

We all have an inner child; a little girl or boy inside. This is our vulnerable and loving self that we are born with. In our society, it is part of the process of growing up that our power selves, like the successful self, the intellectual self, the controlling self, the angry self, the perfectionist self, the pleaser self and so on, protect the inner child from becoming hurt. During this necessary process, the inner child gets buried and we can lose our ability to experience true closeness. If we over-identify with one or more of those power selves, we might find it difficult to be authentic and vulnerable with others, or to let somebody else come close.

Many of us have an inner child, who feels lost, lonely, rejected or abandoned. Sometimes our inner child feels unworthy or full of shame because we only criticize it. If we are in the habit of ignoring our inner child, her or his fears and feelings, or beating up on her with negative self talk and making her feel “not enough”, the inner child might jump into the driver’s seat and drive us into words, actions or behaviours which stem from feeling unlovable. When the inner child feels attacked, threatened or unloved, our angry part, or our manipulate part, or our lying part and so on, step forward to protect the inner child.

When we are aware of that dynamic, we can take care of the inner child, express our feelings and needs calmly and set clear boundaries for the inner child.

Inner Child 12 upset

Sometimes the inner child feels scared or upset and needs us to act in a certain way so that she feels safe.

Inner Child 12 angry

Sometimes she might even show up as angry and feel like we have not protected her well. We have to teach her that from now on we will take better care of her.

We need to bring up a strong parental voice to assure that child like part in us that her/his feelings and needs matter. That we will parent ourselves and love ourselves in the way we parent our own children or take care of others. Inner Child work helps to shift the relationship we have with ourselves to true self-love and living in line with your authentic voice.

I am excited to be able to introduce a completely new CD: Inner Child Meditations. On this CD you will find two different inner child meditations which have been combined with beautiful music.

The first meditation is based on the inner child meditation my good friend Darryl Gurney developed for his Shadow Energetics workshop. This workshop combines shadow work, a belief change process to shift subconscious beliefs, relationship healing, emotional release work, dream interpretations, and – last but not least – inner child work. This first meditation guides you to meet your inner child, talk to her or him, to switch places with your inner child and to hear what you need to hear. It helps you to connect to your true feelings and needs and to address them.

The second meditation allows you to go back in time to different ages and collect and reclaim different parts of yourself at different times. It also guides you to communicate with your future self, and to connect to your future self as your mentor.

TESTIMONIAL:

“I spent last night and this morning listening to the Track 2 of the CD. I was guided to spend a little time under the tree with my little girl. I love the CD your voice is amazing so soothing, comforting and you really make me feel safe and my little girl feels safe too 🙂 I will explore the last track I think in a few days, after a long visit under the tree. I just want to say how much I appreciate you. You always make me feel so safe and that I can share whatever needs to be shared and that a solution is always uncovered. Thank you Thank you Thank you!”

A FEW DAYS LATER:

“I just finished listening to the 3rd track and spent time with my future self: she says hello and thanks you for sending me for a visit. It was very emotional and I shall have to wait awhile for the red eyes to diminish before I go shopping. What a powerful meditation and how much I needed that. I really needed to feel how through my life I have survived and thrived and in this present time nothing will be any different. I am so very grateful that you are in my life, that you have such wonderful gifts and your meditation was like having a great Angelika hug”.

Trapped Emotions

Do you feel like you are struggling under the weight of something? Does it seem challenging to feel peace, joy, love or even acceptance? Does it perhaps feel like you are weighed down by a particular emotion, like sadness, fear or anger?

Emotional Release - Scrabble 1

Sometimes a traumatic or emotionally charged experience leaves an energy behind in our body. Instead of simply experiencing the feeling and moving through it, the energy of the emotion becomes trapped in the physical body. These trapped emotions can cause disruptions in our relationships, as well as physical pain, dysfunction and even disease.

Maria had a traumatic break up. Even after two years she had a hard time seeing her ex-husband. The emotions of betrayal, disappointment and bitterness were stuck in her body. After releasing them and doing some other work to step into her own power, she was able to move on.

Chris lost his partner in an accident. The emotions he had to release were shock and despair, and at a later point sorrow and abandonment. Shortly after he released all his trapped emotions and did some further grief work, he met his new partner Paul. Chris and Paul just moved in together.

Janet had a fight with her sister which led to them not speaking for ten years. She felt deeply misunderstood and the emotion got trapped in her body. Once she released the emotion, she felt able to contact her sister. They are rebuilding their relationship.

If your body is holding a long-term trapped emotion, we have to take a look at what is going on energetically. The emotion is an energy within you vibrating at a certain frequency and you automatically attract more of that frequency into your life. A trapped emotion can persist for many years and be the cause for us experiencing similar emotions over and over again.

If disappointment is trapped, you will find yourself in a never ending cycle of being disappointed with others and yourself. If feeling attacked is trapped inside you, you will feel attacked by others all the time. If abandonment is trapped, you might struggle with feeling alone. If mistrust is trapped, you might find yourself attracting people you cannot trust or think you cannot trust.

Each emotion is related to an organ, respectively a pair of meridians. Anger, for example, is related to your liver, bitterness to the gall bladder, fear to your kidneys, grief to your heart and so on. The emotion originates from that specific organ but can get stuck anywhere in your body. Sometimes the area of a physical issue holds several trapped emotions.

Once you have released a trapped emotion, it is gone for good. That doesn’t mean that you will not feel that feeling again. It means that the emotional charge, the grip the emotion had over you, will be gone for good.

Releasing trapped emotions from a place of self-love and forgiveness improves the relationship you have with yourself, as well as with others. It can also help to let go of pain and can heal physical problems. It significantly improves your quality of life. It gives you the freedom to vibrate at a higher level of acceptance, love, joy and eventually deep peace.

What is Our Light Shadow?

Who do you admire? What do you admire that person for?

I conducted a little survey asking these two questions, and the answers reached from singers and athletes to Jesus. The interesting thing about asking such questions is which insights the answers give us about our own dreams and desires. When we have a role model, or simply somebody we know and think highly of, it is the energy of that person—the traits we perceive them to have—which holds the magical pull for us. Just as we all have a dark shadow, we also all have a light shadow. The dark shadow is the traits that we judge in others. Our light shadow is the traits that we admire in others and feel that we are not.

One of the public people I find fascinating and admire is the Dalai Lama. He personifies the energies of spirituality, wisdom, peace, loving kindness, joy and laughter for me. He clearly vibrates at a higher level than most humans on this earth.

Dalai Lama - pulling beard

Now, why him and not another spiritual and peaceful leader? Beyond his spiritualism, he fully lives what was a light shadow of mine for the longest time. He has a childlike innocence, a playful joy, what even shows up as a carefree nature. He can be silly and laugh at little things. Growing up in a German household, I learned very early on that there was no place for silliness. One had to behave maturely. After all, life is a serious matter. Or is it?

Of course it only is if you buy into that story that growing up is serious business. According to this perspective, being an adult is indeed all about being responsible and dignified. The Dalai Lama does not operate on that story. The energy which allows him to experience life from a place of lightness and joy was hidden in my shadow for the longest time.

I’d like to invite you to think of whom you admire, who your role model is. Why do you admire that person? The more we recognize what our light shadow is, the more we can integrate that light into our whole being.

WildAboutWellness2

On Wednesday, May 27, 2015 in the evening, I will be one of the speakers at the Burlington “Wild About Wellness” network meeting, organized by our wonderful leader Simone Usselman-Tod. This event is open to the public. If you would like to attend, please contact me or Simone.

In my talk, I will be illustrating how we are all born as magnificent castles with a thousand rooms. Each room contains an energy, a different possibility of expressing and experiencing life. Throughout life, we disown one after the next of those options because we are afraid to be judged by others and—even worse—not to be loved anymore.

Neuschwanstein

By the time we are grownups, many of us have locked up so many of those “rooms” we had in our castle. We forget about ever having been this magnificent castle with hundreds of different rooms and all these possibilities of expressions of our true self. We believe we are just a small, run-down two-bedroom house.

We are under the misconception that there is such a thing as “bad energy”. In my talk, I will also explain why it makes sense to embrace all energies in us and to feed the black wolves inside us as much as the white ones.

As a take-away that evening, you will be able to pick one light shadow, one trait you admire in others, and integrate it into your being in a guided mediation. The line between what is showing up as a dark shadow and what can show up as a light shadow can sometimes be a bit blurred. What is a light shadow for you, might be a dark shadow for somebody else. In both cases, it is something that you feel you are not, even though the potential for every trait lies inside all of us. The main question is whether you are judging something or admiring it.

Some examples of light shadow qualities are:

abundant, artistic, assertive, beautiful, patient, easy going, special, magnificent, connected, articulate, responsible, organized, fun, playful, worthy, funny, strong, decisive, confident, intelligent, successful, persistent, flexible, spontaneous, sensual, generous, wise, forgiving, authentic, open-hearted… and the list goes on…

The Number One Quality of a Healer

What is the one quality that all successful healers have in common? Science shows it is Love. Now, what does that mean?

Love is a very misunderstood word. It is a, “portmanteau” or “suitcase word”, a word which is an umbrella for so many different feelings. We open up the suitcase with the label “Love” and we throw all sorts of things in it. We use it from “I love chocolate” to “I fell in Love” to “I love God”.

Dr. Laskow & wife.

Leonard  Laskow  & his wife Sama

Leonard Laskow, MD took love into the laboratory and experimented with bacteria and cancer cells. His definition of this complex vibration is:

“Love is the awareness of relatedness

and the impulse towards unity.”

(Leonard Laskow)

What we love, we want to become one with; that could be food, nature, another person. There is a movement towards unity. Unconditional Love means unconditional acceptance and moving into resonance with something or somebody. Dr. Laskow found that going into resonance heals because unconditional love resolves duality to unity. The key to healing is becoming one with whatever you want to heal rather than to fear it, repress it or fight it.

When you strike an A tuning fork and bring it close to another A tuning fork, that second tuning fork will also begin to vibrate. Similar frequencies vibrate with each other. Just as one tuning fork vibrates with another we can also be in that resonance with each other.

Resonance is not an example of love. You can be angry with somebody and be in an angry resonance. However, when you are in a loving state, resonance is always present.

Love doesn’t create unity but it reminds us of what we tend to forget: That we are all connected, we are all one! This is a time of remembering our oneness. Love is awakening to oneness at the deepest level. We live in a world of apparent separation and Love reminds us of the illusion of separation.

In the lab, Dr. Laskow discovered that he had the greatest impact by coming into resonance with the bacteria, or in other words, total unconditional acceptance of the bacteria’s existence, without any judgment.

Dr. Laskow then introduced an intention into the field of coherence. Coherence is a stronger form of resonance; he explains that he became “like a human laser”. Love plus an intention reduced the growth rate of bacteria by 50% as opposed to the control group,

Everything that we resist, persists. Bacteria resists being killed or destroyed, but there is no resistance when they are loved.

With cancer cells, he explored different intentions. The most powerful intention, which brought the greatest results was for the cancer cell to “return to the natural order, harmony and growth rate of its pre-hyper active cell line”. Instead of focusing on killing the cells, he focused on them becoming what they originally were.

The more energy or feeling is put into an intention the more effective it is. Another interesting find was that by coupling a thought form with an image the results were doubled. He was able to reduce the growth of a cell by 40% instead of 20% when he added an image to the thought. He was also able to stimulate the growth rate by 15% with thought plus imagery.

The bottom line of all the experiments is: Love plus Intention have a real impact on cancer cells and therefore on healing.

Based on his research in the lab, he developed his workshops and called this technique of Healing with Love, HOLOENERGETICS®. Holoenergetics means healing with the energy of the whole, which is greater than the sum of the parts.

Dr. Laskow concluded that if separation is an illusion, it must take energy to keep the illusion up. If all this energy is released by bringing people back into wholeness, all the energy is freed up for healing. The energy of love is released and facilitates the healing. Love is not necessary for physical healing because the body knows how to heal, but at times just the release through love is sufficient for physical, emotional and mental healing.

Holoenergetics teaches a particular breathing technique to go into a whole brain state, in which both hemispheres of the brain come into a beautiful place of balance. He also teaches how to breathe into the space at the back of your heart and become an observer from that place. The practitioners learn to transpersonally align with another person from heart to heart. The most important quality for the practitioner is to develop and to hold that field of coherent love.

Holoenergetics includes tracing of an emotional or physical issue. Through the tracing process, we go back to the root cause of when a separation happened, either through an experience or an interpretation of a situation which crystallized into a belief of being separate, not good enough and so on. In the process, the experience and the limiting beliefs are cleared out and then replaced by what we really wanted to feel and believe at that time.

My personal favourite is the Holoenergetics Forgiveness Process. I have written many blogs on the healing power of Forgiveness. In this process, it might seem like you are forgiving the other person but it’s all really about you. Truly letting go of the energy of anger, resentment, sadness or hurt frees you up for your own healing, evolution and growth. And within that process, the most important person to forgive yourself is your younger selves. Judgment and anger at ourselves is what separates us from our true essence and veils what we are at the core of our being: Love.

Truth and Vulnerability

I was at a very different and heart-opening networking event in Oakville yesterday. A small group of like-minded practitioners got together to support each other. The topic of the meeting was “Truth and Vulnerability”. The hostess was doing an amazing job at creating a safe space for everybody to share their vulnerable place.

What was interesting to see is how our perception plays a big part in being in that place of not feeling safe. Two people can give the same facts a completely different meaning based on their belief systems, their individual challenges, and their goals.

A perspective we sometimes have is the “That’s not fair” story. I have been running a “That’s not fair” story myself recently. Not only does this story make us feel like a victim, it also disregards that there is a bigger picture: whatever shows up is happening for a reason, or two reasons, or three… There is something for us to learn.

call for love

If everything that shows up is either a call for me to be Loving or for me to recognize the Love, it really changes our stories. The “This is not fair story” suddenly sounds completely different. We can re-write the story from Love.

Being in a loving presence in the presence of somebody who is temporarily showing up from a place of being out of Love is not easy. To be in that place of peace and Love, no matter what somebody else is doing or saying, requires that we notice the triggers and do our own work.

What if we asked, what does the situation invite me to do that I would otherwise not be doing? Maybe the learning is to let go of a certain attachment and open up to something new.

Releasing my particular “That’s not fair” story invites me to step out of my comfort zone. I prefer to market low key, and to fly just slightly under the radar. That has always worked well for me. All of a sudden though, the Universe is reminding me that I can step out more, be heard and seen louder and clearer; spread the word to more people. I can continue saying “it is not fair what so and so is doing” and I can delude myself that “I am being forced to do something I don’t want to do”, or I can just trust that this is happening because something better wants to unfold.

My good friend Lisbeth Fregonese, who organizes the Burlington Wholistic Wellness Expo, reminded me yesterday, that I have been – like many of us – a bit of a pioneer. I have been a PSYCH-K® hub for Darryl Gurney’s students in the GTA. I have been sponsoring his workshops 3-4 times a year and running a monthly practice group for his students.

That energy draws further similar energy in. It calls for more, for a stronger presence in the Golden Horseshoe, which will ultimately be known as the Healthiest Community on Earth. Matt Scherb, again another pioneer, started this initiative and the ball is rolling continuously to manifest this vision.

Now, the question is, in which direction am I expanding next, to respond to this shift in energy and to create new foot-prints? I trust the Universe has a plan already and I just need to follow the synchronicities and guidance.

At the Other Side of Each Shadow…

I had an interesting choice to make just recently, and with it came a bit of a light bulb moment. I had the opportunity to point out to somebody that they are out of integrity and that they are justifying their actions by using what one might call spiritual jargon. Like everybody, I have a self-righteous part that pipes up at times and judges something as unfair or “not right”. That self-righteous part in me would have loved to step out and ask this person if she was really feeling good about treating another person, who was kind and generous to her in the past, the way she is.

But then instead of sending it out right away, I sat with the email I had written. The quiet voice inside said, “Wait, don’t just respond impulsively”. I talked to my friend Darryl Gurney, whose insights and perspective I have always appreciated. He agreed that the person was probably coming from fear, showing up with a surprising lack of integrity and a lower consciousness level than one would expect.

He also reminded me though that when somebody shows up in one of their shadows, we need to remember that at the other side of that shadow is a truly lovely energy. We all have ALL energy inside of us.

When somebody acts from a place of self-centredness, dishonour, aggression, unscrupulousness, greed, or from any other shadow side, we need to remind ourselves that they are also selfless, honest, peaceful, conscious of their actions, fair, and willing to share at other times. The reason why they are choosing to act from their shadow and to justify their actions with seemingly reasonable arguments and/or pseudo-spiritual non-sense, is that they are in fear.

Maybe they are in fear around their financial situation, or in fear of losing something or someone. Maybe they feel disconnected and unloved. Maybe they are in fear of speaking up from a place of integrity because somebody else in their life might not understand or agree. There could be a million reasons why we are out of integrity and choosing to pretend that we are not. Another truth is that we have all been out of integrity ourselves at some point in our life. I certainly know I have.

When somebody makes choices which are not the strongest choices they could make, it is sometimes challenging not to judge. However, a situation like this is a test to just let it be and trust that the Universe has a way of taking care of things.

Beach & Ho'oponopono

So, instead of writing my email, I decided to sit and do the Ho’oponopono Ritual to shift the feelings I have for, and my energy towards, this person. Hoʻoponopono is an ancient Hawaiian practice of reconciliation and forgiveness. It consists of four sentences to forgive and let go, and to raise our vibration to a vibration of love:

I am sorry. Please forgive me. I love you. Thank you.

With the Ho’oponopono prayer, we take responsibility for whatever we are experiencing in our life. It is a spiritual truth that everything that shows up in our lives is there for a reason and for our highest good, even if we don’t see it at the time. It is also a spiritual belief that before we started this life we chose the major events of our lives. Sometimes this has brought us pain. However, many of our greatest insights come from painful experiences and we have the chance to grow from those experiences. With this meditation we can make peace with people and situations that have brought us pain, anger, resentment or other difficulties. We can include people close to us or someone we have not even met but whose actions have affected us in some way.

Who is Darryl Gurney?

When we have decided we want to learn a technique and take a class it is not always easy to choose which teacher or instructor is right for us. Some of us just need to look at a photo of a person and we can feel the energy, others might want to do a bit more research and go by testimonials.

IMAG1189

I have been friends with Darryl Gurney for many years and have sponsored his workshops in the GTA for the last few years. Over the years of first taking all his classes and then sponsoring them, I have heard others echo my feelings over and over again, “He is the best teacher I have ever come across in the alternative health field”.

What makes somebody the best teacher? At the top of the list are integrity and honesty. Secondly, a true desire to change this world. Thirdly, his strong heart-centred focus. He teaches with clarity and is a true role model. He truly lives PSYCH-K®, Holoenergetics® and Shadowenergetics. Many people can teach the techniques of a system, but I have yet to see another person who can connect so lovingly from heart to heart with every student in the class.

We all have taken classes in which the teacher was triggered by a participant, or in which we just didn’t feel quite comfortable. Taking one of Darryl’s workshops is a totally different experience. Darryl has done his own work for many years and creates a space in which every single person feels accepted and appreciated. The energy is one of non-judgment, safety and love. However, what stands out most about Darryl is his ability to make the entire room roar with laughter. His humour and wonderful way of looking at the world connects and unites us all. Everybody leaves with new insights, deeper understanding of themselves and others, and with the feeling of being lovable exactly the way we are.

This is what some of our students are saying about Darryl Gurney:

I had the privilege of having Daryl as my teacher in the Spring and I was blown away by his expertise. He really walks his talk. He is so passionate about helping his students get the most out of his courses and grow to be the best they can be. He is truly an expert in his field. Thanks, Daryl!!!

– Jennifer Song, Burlington

Taking the basic and the advanced Psych-K with Darryl Gurney was a wonderful experience in every aspect. The courses were very well organized and the locations carefully chosen. The energy and atmosphere felt just perfect, right from the beginning.

Darryl is a gifted teacher. His fun and creative ways make it easy to understand and learn. Especially the advanced Psych-K is an intense course and a lot to take in. Darryl was always aware of the needs of the group and he would restore our energy with fun Qigong exercises.

What sets Darryl apart is his heartfelt personality. He has a special gift to create a safe space where deep healing can happen. He is not just somebody who learned a technique and decided to teach it. Psych-K is an integral part of his personal life and it shows in the way he understands and supports each individual’s experience on their own journey through life.

Psych-K has become an important part of my life as well. I feel very grateful and blessed that I had Darryl as my teacher and mentor.

– Julia Trenkle, Oakville

I have taken three courses taught by Darryl Gurney to date. I don’t think I can adequately relay what an amazing experience, each and every day has been. Although the subject matter is incredible, I do not believe that I would have absorbed as much or been as present had it not been for Darryl’s passion, insight, compassion and amazing sense of humour. The only words that adequately describe how I feel are “he has saved me”. I could not imagine a more perfect instructor for PSYCH-K.

-Karolyn K., Milton

I have worked as a holistic practitioner since 1999 and have taken a multitude of courses during that time. I first met Darryl Gurney in 2005 at a basic level Psych-K course he was teaching. I enjoyed his teaching style immensely and later took the Advanced Psych-K course with him as well as a Holoenergetics course and a Shadow Energetics course. Whenever I am able I retake his courses just to be in the great energy he creates.   I have invited many people to participate in his courses as I feel that he is the very best instructor in his field. You always come away from his courses with way more than just a technique. He gives his whole heart and soul to his work. Darryl teaches with love, lots of humor and a great depth of understanding of his subject. Whenever I am with Darryl I am inspired to be a better person just by his example. Thank you Darryl. You are one of my life’s great blessings and I thank God for you.

– Fern Wolf, Georgetown

I have taken half a dozen PSYCH-K and other energy related training courses with Darryl Gurney. He is a fantastic facilitator. I am a business consultant in Learning and Development and have spent over 20 years designing and facilitating adult training courses and curriculums and Darryl is at the top. He is fun, thorough, patient and very committed to the subject and his students. I really believe that Darryl is the reason the workshops are so impactful. I have and will continue to recommend others to take his workshops. They are fabulous.

– Jenny Rice, Toronto

When I decided that I wanted to learn about PSYCH – K, I did some research and found Darryl Gurney. I feel absolutely blessed to have been able to take the Basic PSYCH – K course, the ADVANCED PSYCH – K course as well as the SHADOW – ENERGETICS course from Darryl. I have learned so much from Darryl and it has been life changing. Darryl teaches his courses with integrity, expertise and humour. I have rarely met anyone in life that walks the talk more than Darryl. Darryl has spent years learning and practicing PSYCH – K and I have experienced that focus and dedication in two ways. First of all, the courses he teaches are excellent because Darryl knows his subject so well he is able to teach it with ease, in detail and with obvious expertise. Secondly, it is obvious that Darryl has practiced PSYCH – K in depth because of the person that he has become. He is able to love and accept all individuals. He creates a safe learning environment where people are able to share and express the various fibres of their being. That is truly where learning, healing and change can take place. I am looking forward to taking another course from Darryl where I can continue to refine, change and heal the fibres of my being.

Integrity, Cooperation and Heart-Centredness

An interesting phenomenon came my way over the weekend, a concept I had almost forgotten about: competition versus co-operation. The idea of competition comes from us being in a place of fear, from feeling separate and alone. Cooperation, on the other hand, is knowing that we are all connected and can help each other because there is no need to fear a lack.

I am very blessed to be in a field in which most people understand that there is enough abundance for all. When somebody approaches us because they want to learn or do what we do, we openly share. Ultimately, somebody has helped us along the way. We are what we are due to the support we have received. When we network and we have overlapping skills or talents, we trust that we can work together for the highest benefit of everybody. Beautiful collaborations have come out of that philosophy.

There is no need to fearfully hang onto what it yours, to be sneaky and hurt somebody else to have an advantage over them. Everything is energy. Dishonesty and a lack of integrity are in the long run going to come back to the person who has chosen it.

Experiencing that somebody in our field chooses unnecessary and aggressive competition and dishonesty over cooperation and fairness surprised me immensely. The woman who made this unfortunate choice is relatively new to the field of healing and spirituality and perhaps she has not understood, yet, that the Universe does not reward a lack of integrity.

Coming back from a beautiful networking meeting yesterday morning with a room full of heart-centred people who are all committed to raising the vibration in this area of the world has restored my faith in my fellow humans again and has filled my heart with peace.

As my friend, Matt Scherb, reminded us at that meeting, we only need 1 square root of 1% of the population to change the consciousness on this planet and the life quality for everybody. This is called the Maharishi effect, named after Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who proved that one square root of 1% of a population practicing the Transcendental Meditation® technique produces measurable improvements in the vibration away from fear, crime, violence, competition and egocentric thinking to love, lower crime rates and less violence, cooperation and group thinking.

Another way of changing that vibration are the heart-centred workshops which my friend Darryl Gurney teaches. He used to be my mentor and is still a man I greatly admire, as he really personifies Love. Whether he teaches the participants PSYCH-K® (Belief Changes), or Holoenergetics (Healing with Love), or Shadow Energetics (Shadow work) he always raises the energy of the entire group through his role modelling and beautiful presence. Becoming a part of the PSYCH-K® family is an experience full of laughter, personal healing and insights, all while learning techniques to help others.
